Player: Liam
Character: Mortimer Montgomery
Playbook: The Squire
Background and Achievements
Street urchin who joined because Fellowship looked cool, grooming Ulion's unicorn, taking blacksmith lessons from Maker, saved Tiny's life, designated holder of mysterious dynamite barrel.
Origin
Born in the City of Bells as a street urchin, kept alive through wit and determination. Subject of a prophecy from The Harbingers about "a particular common human rising up and defeating great evil" - a prophecy that is forbidden among their kind.
Session 1 Developments
The Fall of Blackwharf: Discovered he can fly by flapping his arms really hard (enhanced by Ulion's pixie dust). Led the Fellowship through the sewers of his hometown using his local knowledge. Formed a bond with Master Carillon, the Master of Bells. Attempted aerial water-bombing rescue of citizens during the siege.
New Abilities: Flight via arm-flapping and pixie dust combination.
Session 2 Developments
Journey to Kovat: Showed diplomatic initiative by attempting to negotiate with the cannibalistic captain of the Everlast. Advocated for keeping promises to the city council despite the changed circumstances. Began intensive bell-making training under Master Carillon's demanding but caring tutelage, learning the craft necessary for the bell reconstruction project.
Character Growth: Demonstrates increasing leadership qualities and commitment to the Fellowship's mission. Continues to serve as an information bridge between Kurg and the Fellowship through his relationship with Tiny. Shows growing concern for those left behind, particularly Tommy the blacksmith apprentice.
Session 4 Developments
Operating the Boom-Stick: Volunteered to operate the experimental acoustic weapon during the aerial assault on the Void Titan. Strapped to the Boom-Stick with pixie dust weight reduction, mounted behind Nyx on Vkkal, and successfully fired the weapon while enduring the horror of looking directly at the void titan ("looking right into the sun except for the sun is an anti-sun"). Hit the void titan's shoulder, revealing Shod's fire giant form beneath.
Civilian Interaction: Interacted with Hearthgate refugees early in the session, gathering information from children and traumatized civilians. Showed natural comfort with civilian populations, especially children, while maintaining optimism: "Well, I'm sure the fellowship will find a way to take care of it. They're the fellowship after all. They can do anything."
Medical Skills Demonstrated: Tended to Rattrick's destroyed feet using cobbling skills learned back in Blackwharf: "Oh, your poor shoes. I took a bit of a cobbling lessons back in Blackwharf." Applied poultices and provided medical treatment, demonstrating practical skills beyond combat.
"Speak Softly" with Shod: Conducted the critical interview with the freed fire giant, building immediate rapport through direct, courageous questions. Earned Shod's specific admiration and declaration: "I like this one."
Fire Giant Bond Formed: Mortimer's courage and directness resonated with fire giant warrior culture. Shod sees Mortimer as kindred spirit despite massive size difference—Mortimer's willingness to face the void titan, operate the Boom-Stick aerially, and speak boldly embodied fire giant values. Shod will likely serve primarily as Mortimer's personal mentor/companion rather than general Fellowship resource.
