Overview
The Boom-Stick is an experimental acoustic weapon designed and constructed by Ale-ore and Kurg during Session 4 to combat Void Titans. This striker-mechanism tuning fork amplifier represents the successful combination of orc rapid prototyping and dwarven engineering principles, enhanced with Nyx's elixirThe Entropy Shepherd's weakness.
Components
- Striker Mechanism: Crank-operated piston that hits the tuning fork with controlled force
- Tuning Fork: Specific metal and thickness calibrated by Master Carillon to produce exact frequencies
- Wooden Funnel/Horn Amplifier: Cannon-shaped resonance chamber that amplifies and directs sound
- Trigger System and Levers: Operational controls for the striker mechanism
- Special Treatment: Quenched with Nyx's elixir during construction
Construction Method
Built in hours rather than days using Kurg's "Fires of Industry" orc crafting technique, accepting trade-offs between speed and reliability. Master Carillon provided critical expertise for frequency calibration, determining the precise metal, thickness, and striking force needed to produce "perfect harmony."
First Deployment
Session 4 - Hearthgate Valley: Mortimer operated the Boom-Stick while strapped to it with pixie dust weight reduction, mounted behind Nyx on Vkkal the Pegasus. Ulion flew as outrider support. The weapon successfully disrupted a Void Titan's corruption field, revealing the fire giant Shod beneath the void shell.
Performance Results
Successes:
- Produced "perfect harmony" tone described as "quite pretty," "nice and bassy," with "audible cleanse" effect
- Successfully hit target (Void Titan's shoulder) from aerial platform
- Revealed corrupted being's original form beneath void corruption
- Demonstrated acoustic disruption principle works against entropic entities
Limitations:
- Required two-stage solution: Boom-Stick disruption + magical restoration (provided by Nyx)
- Shed critical component mid-flight during combat use
- Tagged as "clumsy" - unreliable in extended use, -1 penalty on use
- Needs dwarven refinement for mass production reliability
The Sound
Witnesses described the test fire as producing perfect harmony with a nice, bassy tone that felt like "an audible cleanse." The specific frequency creates presence/vibration that counteracts the void's absence.
Future Development
Version 2.0 Plans: Ale-ore has ambitions to mass-produce refined Boom-Sticks in Khaz-Dorahn, combining orc innovation with dwarven precision. Otso has opened the gates for this production initiative, establishing the dwarven city as the Fellowship's first major allied community and manufacturing base.
Tactical Significance
The Boom-Stick proves that Void Titans can be saved rather than destroyed, and that technology can disrupt entropic corruption when combined with magical restoration. It represents a replicable solution to a previously impossible threatexactly the kind of breakthrough the Fellowship needs to oppose The Entropy Shepherd at scale.
Current Status
Original prototype retained by the Fellowship. Components under repair following component failure during combat. Plans for improved design and mass production underway in Khaz-Dorahn.
